Getting a Forklift License

"Since I first obtained my forklift license and became an operator, three other women have started working as full-time forklift operators. And women now represent four out of every ten participants in the company’s industrial truck driving course, which is required preparation for becoming a vehicle operator," says Mrs Linda Kelly, a forklift truck driver.

"In addition," she adds, "more than 90 per cent of all seasonal forklift operators at R. J. Reynolds are women. I’m in good company."

Mrs. Kelly studied the mechanical functions of forklift trucks during the driving course, in addition to learning how to load and unload hogsheads and pallets of stacked materials.
